Hit by pitch
03 June 2009 | By tracy-wzid in UncategorizedI recently talked about my son getting hit by the ball while playing baseball. It is completely frustrating and heart breaking as a Mom to watch your child get injured. One parent joked how they saw a bolt of blonde running towards the diamond. That of course, was me. But, when I got to the gate to go on to the field, I stopped dead in my tracks. What do I do? Should I run on to the field? Cradle my baby and tell him Mommy is here?! He’s almost as big as me, so picking him up and carrying him would have been difficult. But, I wanted so badly to take care of my injured son. He was down on the ground and his eye glasses were knocked off. What did I do? I quietly stood at the fence and watched from a distance as the coaches and ump checked my boy. Check his head! Check for blood! Luckily the field is right next to Elliot Hospital! Get him an ice pack! (these were the thoughts running through my mind) I did not go out on the field that evening. Someone else took care of my child. Why? Because my boy is almost 11 years old and his bruised pride and complete embarassment from Mom running out to help would have hurt more than the bump over his right eye.
