Olivia Newton-Caruso

April 30th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - You should have seen Tracy’s eyes light up when I booked Olivia Newton-John for a Monday interview. She instantly pulled up her leg warmers and did a verse of “Physical” in the studio. “I WAS Olivia when I was young,” she told me. Well, we will speak with the pop icon Monday at 7:10. Can’t wait to see her on Fox’s “Glee” Tuesday night…Olivia will guest star as herself and I believe she and character Sue Sylvester will bust out the spandex for a retro performance of “Physical.” Aside from that, we’ll talk with her about her victory over breast cancer and talk about being a Mom. She has a 24-year old daughter, Chloe. Let’s hope Tracy doesn’t become “Sandy” and start belting out…”You better shape up, cause I need a man…!” during the interview.

Why Adam Avoided the Apple

April 27th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - By now we all know the Biblical story of Eve tempting Adam with the forbidden apple from from Eden. This morning, I finally understood the tale. I watched Tracy wipe her nose with every bite of her crispy Macintosh. It seems, Eve’s and Tracy’s noses got in the way of executing a clean crunch! With each bite came apple juice as the fruit passed under their noses. Eve gave the apple to Adam so she could laugh at him. He fell for it and the rest is history. Though Tracy did not tempt me with a bite, I knew how the story in the Bible ended and opted, instead, for a much yummier Dunkin’ Donuts twisted cheddar bagel. Moral of the story. Stand back when Tracy is devouring an apple…or at least consult your Bible for the implications of sharing said fruit with her.

Time Flies When You’re Getting Old

April 20th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Tracy is right! My daughter Liz was still attending Bishop Guertin High School when she started at WZID. Next thing you know, my kid turns 30! No fair! I still get to hang with kids. Barb has two adorable grandchildren. The 10-year old beats me regularly at UNO. The 4-year old just beats me. I’m his human punching bag. I’ve traded my recumbant bike for a kid-powered cardio workout every couple weeks. Big fun! There’s another g-kid in the oven, so looks like I’ll be chasing soccer balls and playing card games for at least another 25 years with the little ones. Love it!

It was beauty that killed the beast

April 16th, 2010 | By tracy-wzid in Uncategorized | No Comments »

T- Mike, it’s only April.  I beg you, please, stop bringing up the “milestone” birthday I’m facing.   I’m not one to beg, but for this, I’m on bended knee!!!

Speaking of birthdays. I can’t believe Mike’s daughter is 30! When Mike and I first started working together, she wasn’t even in high school, yet!  Which brings me to my next thought.  I went to Literacy Day at my kid’s elementary school.  I got to see the stories and letters my kids have written since September.  There were  some spelling and grammatical mistakes, but doesn’t that make the project that much more enjoyable?  Anyway, on one of the walls the students were asked to write their favorite quote.  My son proudly found his on the wall and pointed it out to me.  The quote : “…It was beauty that killed the beast”.

Mentor Adam Lambert on Idol

April 14th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - I thought Adam Lambert was the best American Idol mentor so far this season. Tuesdaynight, last season’s runner-up guided the remaining 9 Idol-hopefuls through their Elvis song selections. I think I’m in the minority. Tracy thinks mentors should not be the same age or younger than the contestants. Listener Richard from Hooksett thought Lambert was horrible.  I liked that he encouraged the singers to step up their showmanship, something that has been lacking in the current season-9 crop. If anybody knows showmanship, it’s Adam “Glambert.” The dude can sing and put on a show. He may be young, but he just went through the gut-wrenching process a year ago. He knows what he’s talking about and I like his sincerity. Sure, Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow have more miles on the stage, but Adam Lambert knows the road, even though he got his driver’s license only a year ago.

Bragging Rights Part II

April 7th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Congratulations to your son on landing an acting role! Very cool. Will you be giving him diva lessons? Just kidding! Tracy, you’ll find out that bragging about your kids never gets old (except to the people you keep telling). While your 11-year old hits the stage, my one and only child (child?) turns 30 years old today. Her fiancee held an open house Saturday at their Boston home and I was proud to see so many people come by to wish Liz a happy birthday and show how much they love her. She was especially pleased with Barbara and I since we brought salsa and chilps from LaCaretta!  I’m looking forward to your milestone birthday in June, Tracy! Better be nice to me, know what I mean?

Bragging rights

T -  Today is my day to brag.  No, not about myself!  My son got a part in the fifth grade end of year play.  He tried out for four parts. Some of them singing, some of them speaking rolls.  He found out Monday he is going to be a Cardsman. This means, he will be singing.  As with all parents, I love my son and support him in all the things he does, however, I do have one problem with all of this.  He informed me, we have to make the costume.  UGH!

The Heat Is On…

April 3rd, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - And I can’t believe that I’m about a week away from having to mow the lawn for the first time this year. Are the seasons shifting? Will foliage season arrive in August this year? My good intention of having my lawnmower serviced during the winter is out the window. I spent Friday raking the remainder of pine debris from the lawn…the walked into the house not realizing my shoe bottoms were filled with sticky pine tar. Normally, not a big deal, but the carpets had just been cleaned earlier in the day. Luckily, I removed my shoes before doing any damage to the rugs! Such are the challenges of an early spring. I’m lovin’ it, are you?
