T - It’s funny how Mike changes his words around when he realizes I’m probably right.  Notice he is now saying SIGFICANT snow fall.  On Monday, he said we would not get any more snow.  It’s okay.  I already knew I was right.  I very much believe we will get more snow in the next month.  Do I want it? NO! Of course not, but I am a realist.  Besides I am completely ready for Spring.  My son has baseball evaluations this weekend…. A sure sign of Spring.  My daughter asked to have her bike taken out of storage…. A sure sign of Srping….  The dogs are watching where they step….A sure sign of Spring.

FLASH: Winter Gone. Tracy’s Lilies Emerge.

March 10th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Even though I was ridiculed by Tracy for saying it, I believe we’ve seen the last of any significant snow. Yes, we could get a dusting or some wet snow, but if I was in Vegas my money would be on “Spring has sprung in NH.” Spring began last Saturday as compensation for the “snowicane” that blew the roof off of our radio station on Feb. 25. Though this is my 25th winter in New England, I’ll stick to my guns that my snowblower will begin its 9-month siesta right now. Enjoy your lilies, Tracy. I’m counting the days to mulchapalooza in my yard.

Pine Cone Art, An Unexpected Windfall!

March 9th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Among my staycation activities of last week was the harvesting of pine cones that littered our lawn following 60 mph winds of Feb. 25. After paying Barb’s Grandchildren (ages 3 and 10) a total of 4 bucks, they picked up half of the cones and stuffed ‘em in a Hefty trash bag. Hundreds of them are in a bag in our kitchen. What to do with them? Since I’m not into making glitter-coated Christmas decorations in March, callers suggested I coat them with peanut butter, roll them in bird seed and leave them outside for the birds. WHAT? Looks like I’m the only one who’s never heard of this. Then we decided it might attract bears, so it looks like I’m back to pine cone art. Anybody like a glittery Frosty the Coneman centerpiece? Place your orders now so I can deliver yours by Christmas. The price? $19.99 a month until December. You know where to find me…yep, hunched over the dining room table with a gallon of Elmer’s glue!

Anybody seen Toto?

M - I know we were scheduled to talk with Dr. Oz Friday morning, but mother nature took us to the land of Oz instead! I think I spotted Elvira Gulch pedaling her bicycle above the women’s rest room where the storm ripped off the roof! Other than Hurricanes Bob and Gloria, I don’t recall seeing such destruction around Manchester following the big blow! I know many of you had worse conditions during the Dec. ‘08 ice storm…but this was nuts! Poor Tracy. Don’t tell her you heard it here…but the poor girl came to work without make up for the first time EVAH! She still looked like a queen…however one of the flying monkeys from Oz was so shocked at the sight, he crashed into the dumpster next to Milly’s Tavern.

Who needs a yardstick when you have a cat?

M - You gotta love Yankee ingenuity. Wednesday it snowed like crazy in the Monadnocks and we heard from callers who measured snow depths with their pets! Since they knew how tall their dogs and cats are, folks phoned in estimates based on how high the snow came up on them. Owners stayed in enjoying coffee in their jammies while pets froclicked and measured the snow. Now if we could just get our kids to go out and do the same. Instead, they sit on the couch making a wii snowman. Go figure.

In a word…Tenacity!

February 23rd, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Boiling down the secret of a successful marriage to one word is not that difficult as we found out this morning. Based on the front page Union Leader story of a NH couple who celebrate 70 years together, we heard from many married listeners offering their one word secrets. Tenacity, romance, communication, even silliness and humor rang true for a few callers who’ve been married over 40 years! Great calls. Maybe we’ll go with Tracy’s suggestion to flip the tables and get one word reasons why some couples get divorced. Hmmm, that includes you and me, Tracy. Who wants to start the ball rolling?

Women’s Expo

February 19th, 2010 | By tracy-wzid in Uncategorized | No Comments »

T -  I can’t believe it’s time again for the WZID Women’s Expo. This year has really flown by! First of all Mike,  I haven’t decided what to wear. That decision will likely be made around 9 a.m. Saturday.  Anyway, tons of great things for women to see at the Expo including Loretta LaRoche and Karen Morgan. They are both VERY funny ladies.  It’s always a pleasure to meet our NH in the Morning listeners, so please make sure you stop by and say, “hello”.

After the Expo, I’m heading out to celebrate a belated Valentine’s Day!!

Coming to our Women’s Expo?

February 18th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Tracy and I love any chance we get to meet our morning show listeners. Saturday is a great opportunity to share some face time with everybody. Tracy will handle stage duties in the morning then I’ll arrive around Noon for the rest of the introductions. We’ve had so much fun in past years with celebrity guests like Joan Rivers, Richard Simmons and of course Delilah. I’ll always cherish the year I got to cook with PBS star Marianne Esposito of “Ciao Italia.” We got to waving knives at each other but no blood was drawn. Sorry ladies, I will not be peeling away my suit like last year when I did a surprise belly dance for everyone. Tracy looked pretty good with her pole dance demo, too. No matter what happens Saturday, we’ll all have fun with Loretta Laroche, Karen Morgan and our 20 Outstanding Women You Should Know. So, ya coming? Tracy…have you decided what you’re wearing yet?

Baking a Black Hole

February 16th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - For all my baking friends out there, I share a recent episode of a messed-up Maple spice birthday cake. I’m still new at baking, but my King Arthur Flour classes have taught me some amazing artisan breads which have been stunning…then, came the collapsing cake. It’s Good To Be a Guy

February 15th, 2010 | By mike in Uncategorized | No Comments »

M - Tracy, I feel your pain. I have never been in a relationship with a woman who didn’t anguish over what outfit to wear for an event. Yes, yes, yes. We guys like our partners to look good…and we owe them the same. I think Barb starts picking out New Year’s Eve outfits around mid-February. I can’t climb into bed some nights because several sets of clothes are spread out on the comforter as if to audition for Ms. Barbara. Back to Women’s Expo. What will I wear? I will select the suit that has few or no wrinkles, that also doesn’t have toothpaste crud on the lapels. Simple enough. It’s good to be a guy.
